Last Week's Mystery Classmates

Carole Bradshaw (Pierce) Choomack

I don't know the King, but the Queen is my once and always sister in law,
Peggy Towery Pierce.  This is a great website - thanks for all your work!

The King is Gary Hatcher from the Class of '66, doesn't he look like a King?

Loses Another Classmate

Donna Faye Bishop Machen

Mike Boggs e-mailed to inform us that Donna Faye Bishop (Machen) passed away two weeks ago after a long fight with Cancer. She was class of '64 and Mike had known her since they were 12 or so. When I asked Mike for a little more information on her, he replied with:

Tommy, I have not seen Donna since '67 and only swapped a few e-mails with her in the last year. I do know that she was married to Mike Machen and they had two daughters. At some point they lived in Saudi Arabia and then retired to a farm near Maryville, Tenn. She had a least one grandchild, maybe more. Her mother is living down near Mobile and she lost her father in a car accident in the last year. Sorry I don't have more. She was a "good" kid back in the school days.

Tommy,
The picture album is wonderful. I can't believe how many events and people you were able to include. Is it going to be available for purchase in the souvenir shop?

I also want to set the record straight for all your readers. You are the glue and motivator that keeps the Fami-LEE together. Anyone who went to the dance saw the standard that you set and the one the rest of us try to live up to. I think if we need a fund raiser that we're going to send you on the road with your one man show!

Thanks to Nile and Judy Prestage for allowing our rowdy group into their barn. Judy Fedrowisch Kincaid and hubby Nelson showed their decorating skills by creating a fun and cozy environment for the dance. Judy Scarborough Milner has an eye for the table layout and decorations. I helped by pretending to clean as I danced to the American Bandstand video that Niles had playing on his big screen TV.

The night ended with a bunch of old people standing around in a circle singing the songs we all loved. Thanks to you,Tommy, for bringing such a variety of tunes and thanks to Becky Fricke Garrison and Niles for knowing ALL THE WORDS!

(Editor's Note: Thanks, Sarajane...I'm only sorry we didn't have time to do my Monkee's and Paul Revere and the Raiders set of music.  I also forgot "The Stripper" which I had planned to play when the party got wild! Yes, the photo album will be added to the souvenir shop soon. I'm working on some combination packages to try to get rid of the rest of the Coffee Mugs (which are great memory souvenirs) and T-Shirts.)

Tommy,
There were a lot of people that I didn't recognize in the Homecoming pictures.  Will you be doing a "before and after" the next few weeks to identify some who aren't already featured in the "Now and Then" section?  Was Jane Parks in one of the pictures at the game?  There was a lady who certainly resembled her.

It looks like y'all had a great time.  Hopefully, we can do a repeat next year and I will be able to attend.

Tommy,  You did a WONDERFUL JOB  with the Homecoming Dance at Niles' "Barn." That was a lot of work and effort to get all the props together and plan all the things to do.....I still can't believe you had all us late folks corralled singing Big Bad John!!!! among others... really a lot of fun and and we have had many laughs over it since. You are a One Man Show!!!  (Sue, we missed you!!) THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL YOU DO.

Niles, Thanks to you and Judy for your WONDERFUL HOSPITALITY. What a great place to enjoy the evening with longago, renewed and  longtime friends (careful not to use that O  word!!.......).The chef was great and we all know who to call for a DJ!! ......Until next time.

Wish I could have come home for homecoming but I was in Biloxi for Cruisin' The Coast all week.  My husband has a '57 Chevy and our best friends have a '70 Challenger and we drove down together.  If you like old cars, you should try that sometime.  There were 5,500 cars registered this year and there are some great pictures to be had....all makes and colors.  So anyway, sounds like you had fun.

I was trying to open the newsletter this week and can't seem to open "www.leealumni.com".  What am I doing wrong?  I had this written down for those times when your e-mail doesn't have the address highlighted where you can just click on it.  If you are really, really busy at work, I will just try again next week.  Lord knows you have enough to do in a week.

Take care of yourself and I hope you know I appreciate all you do in your efforts to keep us all together.  Sometimes I think you take the role of our older brother who tries to hold the family together even though his siblings don't always cooperate.

Saturday, October 4th, was a spectacular day for Lee High School's
library. I was (almost) speechless when Tommy presented the alumni's
check for $1,100.00 -- never had I imagined the amount would be so
huge!  This unexpected windfall is especially appreciated in these lean
times of fund- cutting. Believe me, I will make every dollar count when
selecting books this fall.  Bookplates honoring benefactors will be
placed within each new book so students will know the generosity of
their "elder" Generals.

Thanks to Tommy for sparking the idea to amass funds from the classes
of  64-65-66, targeting Lee's library needs. Thanks to Linda Johnson for organizing the alumni breakfast, allowing the faculty to showcase their
departments Thanks to all classmates and other alumni who generously opened their checkbooks,  showing the  Generals spirit still lives.

What a great time we had.  I don't remember having as much fun with as many great people at one time for a long time.  You and the many others that organized the weekend did a great job.  Sharon and I can't wait for the next get together.  The pictures from the weekend are perfect.  For those that missed this homecoming event, I hope they will be looking toward next years and already planning to attend.

Keep up the good work with the web site,  I can't wait to get the newest one each week.

Just stumbled upon this website and wanted to say hello. I recognize a few names here that where mentioned by my Mother, Susan Garner Pearson Pitts. She graduated from HSV in 1965 but knew many people from LHS. My Mother, Susan, passed away on April 1, 2003 from a battle with Lung Cancer. My father, Travis Pearson, went to Lee for a while. Anyway, just wanted to say Hi and I enjoyed looking over this website. Thanks!

Attention Veterans...
Stand Up and Be Counted

Last year we began a campaign to try to collect the names of all our '64-'65-'66 classmates who are veterans.  We tried to find all the Vietnam era veterans, but this year, we think we need to expand our collection to all veterans and all wars.  Check the list we made last year by clicking here and see if your name and information is listed.  If it is not, or if you have other "wars" or combat service to list, please send an e-mail to update that information.

The complete list will be forwarded to Lee High School to document our contributions.

Anyone Remember
Blue Water Springs Park?
by Collins Wynn
Class of '64

I got to wondering if anyone remembers a place called Blue Water Springs Park? It was a commercial sized swimming pool located somewhere to the northwest of Huntsville and a few of us would go there from time to time rather than the Big Spring pool just for a sense of strangeness I suppose (the old "smoke from a distant fire" theme). I remember riding there with Annette McCraney and some other folks. On occasion I would meet Judy Adair and some of her friends there. I checked mapquest and
terra-serve and could find nothing. May not even exist any longer.

Great participation from all of you this week.

Things are finally getting back to normal, and that is both good and bad. The fun-filled Homecoming weekend was surely worth all the effort everyone put in. I hope those of you who could not (or DID NOT) attend will try to make it next year. I think this small group showed that we still have a fire left in us.

Look at the hit counter at the top of the right column and you will see that we will top over 50,000 page hits before the year is over.  That's great.

Many folks at Homecoming asked why other classes don't have websites like ours. I guess that is because they are not as close as we are. Perhaps someday they will understand what it means to be the Fami-LEE that we have become.
