Well, Classmates, Homecoming 2003 is now in the history books. I think the Classes of '64-'65-'66 made an excellent showing  of our school spirit and set a standard for other classes to follow. The tailgate party got off to a little strange start  when we ended up setting up our party on the Johnson side of the stadium, but since no one bothered to come tell us  differently, our group of approximately 50 people had a great time where we were.  We also ate well! Channel 31 sent a  reporter to interview us and party with us, and even though his hour and a half on the camera and multiple retakes of  interviews ended up with about 20 seconds on the TV, it was still our party that made the news that night.

I received many e-mails thanking me for all the work that I did for the Homecoming.  Let me tell you all one more time, I did not do all the work. I will take credit for thinking up the idea of us all getting together for the ballgame Friday and the dance on  Saturday night.  I thought up the ideas, but many others did the work.  Joy Rubins Morris, Class of '64, came up with the  idea of having the tailgate party which we all enjoyed. And although I was the one who thought of the idea of making a  donation to the library, all you readers of Lee's Traveller made the donations and Joy collected the $1,100 in checks to make  the presentation and kept the list of donors. Carol Jean Williams Carroll, Class of '65, came up with the idea and reserved the room at Zesto for the post-game party and came up the idea and found the source to get the homecoming mums. Judy Scarbrough Milner kept up with the collection of the money for the mums and the Saturday night dance. The Saturday morning  breakfast idea was taken over by Linda McAdams Johsnon, Class of '65, who came up with the idea of moving it to the Lee  cafeteria. Niles Prestage, Class of '65, very graciously opened his barn for the Saturday night dance and arranged for the  food and refreshments.  Carol Jean, Sarajane Steigerwald Tarter, Judy, and Judy Fedowisch Kincaid along with Niles and Judy Prestage did the  decorations for the dance. Most of the work was done by the same group that is the sparkplug of our reunions. I especially came to appreciate the behind the scenes effort and hard work by Niles. Many of your classmates made it to all the activities, including the breakfast at Mullins' on Sunday morning, and without those committments, why bother to do anything  at all? I know many others of you did things that I am unaware of or have failed to recognize, but it takes many to make all  this happen.

I also feel that most of you that attended many of the activities will testify that our classes and those of you readers that we have adopted made up the largest group of any classyears at all the events. We made our presence known, and we had fun in the  process.  Those that skipped the dance missed a great opportunity of seeing me make a fool of myself, including skating around the barn on roller skates during the Carter's Skateland portion of the musical evening. The Y.M.C.A. group in full costumes was a site that will be talked about for years. And the Hokey Pokey is still a dance that can get the whole group on  their feet, and that's what its all about!

As a final comment, throughout the activities this weekend, I could not help but remember last year's mini-reunion that was  the brainchild of Terry Preston, Class of '64. Terry and Jan were travelling from California to Huntsville and wanted to try to get  everyone together while he was in town. We worked it out and many of us all got together for some great fun and laughs.  I  reflect on all our classmates that bothered to go and all that said they'd wait until the next time.  A next time never came for Terry, and I for one will always be thankful that I took the time and effort to make the trip from Memphis to Huntsville to party with Terry that one last time.

A Picture Is Worth
A Thousand Laughs...

(Top) For many this was the first trip back to the bleachers at Milton Frank Stadium since graduation. Too bad Lee lost. (Left) The editor and his Dip Dog ain't what they used to be at the post-game party at Zesto's. Is there a message here?
(Top) Sitting at breakfast at the cafeteria and listening to the principal. (Top Right) These Generals do the Hand-Jive.
(Above) You've never seen the Village People do the YMCA any better that this crowd. (Right) Chief Fandancer was the hit of the evening. He not only fed us, but kept us in stiches throughout the night.

This Week's Mystery Classmates

At the Homecoming Dance on Saturday night, the two Generals above were crowned Homecoming 2003 Queen and King. Can you name these modern royals? (Hints: they are not wife and husband and they are not necessarily from the Classes of '64-'65-'66, but have strong ties if not.)

Do you know if there is a web site for Hutsville High class of '63 or '64?

(Editor's Note: Sorry, Ron, I do not know of such a site. I don't know of any other weekly web site for those years but our's.  I suggest you try Classmates.com and see if you can find an answer.  Many people use that site.)

Thanks for all the effort you and others are doing to keep our high school classes connected. As I approach my 60's many of my former years are becoming blurred; however, my teen age years seem as clear as only yesterday.  Sometimes they just rumble into my consciousness like the "ol' Southern Railroad" freight trail that rolled by Lee High.  As we all know, times have changed from those days of innocence for ourselves and the world and I consider myself very fortunate to have such pleasant memories of which you and my other classmates are the actors.

Hello, Tommy, thank you for your dedication to the Lee Website and planning of the 03 Homecoming.  I am so sorry that I had to miss the Lee High School Homecoming but I also was attending a reunion in Vicksburg, MS.  I look forward to hearing all about the activities in the next issue.

Tommy,  I just wanted to say "thanks" for all the hard work you all put into making this weekend a success.  I cherish the time I get to spend with my buds and five years is definately too long between reunions.  I had a blast and I hope to see you soon.
