Class of 66
Picture this, 10th grade P.E. class. We started a wrestling class of sorts. The coach taught the one down on his knees and the other over him with one arm wrapped around the waist the the other hand at the elbow starting position. We all sat in a circle on some mats laid out on the gym floor. Now I weighed in at a mighty 138lbs.
The coach picked the students who would be matched up in competition against each other. Then I heard the dreaded words,"Burton-Hein". That's right Axel Hein, who had just moved here from Germany and who had taken wrestling classes there and who outweighed me by 25lbs at least and the shrimp, me. Alex just kind of smiled that same sly smile he has in the photo of him in last weeks Traveller. He started out in the down position and me in the upper. The coach said, 'go' and in not more than 3 seconds I was flat on my back with him on top of me and I couldn't breathe. Then as if that wasn't enough, the coach gave me a rematch. This time I was down and Axel was up. I, of course tried the same move on Axel he tried on me. Well, needless to say, it didn't work. This time in about 2 seconds, there I was flat on my back again unable to breathe.
For the rest of my years at Lee I made a wide path when I saw Axel coming down the hall. That experience did so much for my ego, I haven't recovered to this day.

THANK YOU so much for printing the article about the Owens Cross Roads Volunteer Fire Department's entry in the contest to win a new truck.
Although I graduated from Huntsville High in 1965, I have many friends who attended Lee, and I enjoy reading The Traveller. Cherri (Polly) and I were roommates at David Lipscomb and have recently reconnected through Facebook after 45 years!
Thanks again for your help.
