Memphis, TN - The time is approaching fast for our reunion and I hope all of you decide to attend and enjoy some time with your old classmates. I have my reservation at the Marriott and my check has been sent to the reunion committee. I'm looking forward to the experience. Lehman Williams wants to remind any of you who want to play golf on Saturday morning to contact Jerry Brewer who is setting up the Tee Times.

A big "thanks" to all of you that have already sent in your reservations and checks.  To those of you that have not done so, but are planning to attend, please do so as soon as possible.  While a few "walk-ins" can be accommodated, we really need to know in advance how many to expect so that the right amount of food can be ordered, enough tables set up, etc.

NOTE:  We have had several '67 graduates ask about attending the reunion.  If you would like to attend, contact Kathy Harris Jones at
jfk19662010@hotmail.com
for a reservation form and details.

Please remember that even if you are not planning to come to the reunion, we would like to have your current contact info for the handbook.  And if you don't want to have your current whereabouts printed in the handbook, let us know that too and we will honor your request to be removed from your class roster.

There are only a limited number of rooms left at the Marriott for August 20 & 21.  As stated in an earlier update, hotel rooms & prices are at a premium this summer due to the Star Wars Exhibit that will be at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.  The rooms at the Marriott are $109.00 per night ($123.20 including tax).  When making reservations, be sure to mention that you are attending the Lee High School 64'65'66 reunion and request a poolside room if at all possible - unless you would rather not have a poolside room.  The Marriott will do their best to honor requests.

Remember, we want to hear from you even if you are not able to attend so that we will have your current contact information for the handbook that will be given out at the reunion.  If you are unable to attend the reunion and would like a handbook, arrangements can be made to send you a copy.

The reunion class contacts are:

Class of ’64 – Linda Taylor
lktaylor731@aol.com

Please send an email to your contact and include: Class year, first name; last name at time of graduation; married name (if applicable); spouse’s name (if applicable); street address; city; state; zip code; home ( H ) or cell ( C ) phone number (which ever you prefer); e-mail address; and occupation.

Even if you do not plan to attend or are not sure if you’ll be able to attend the upcoming reunion, please send in your information.  And please encourage other classmates that you may be in contact with to do the same.

And check the Traveller each week for planning updates.

Summing Up Our
2010 Reunion Plans

There have been questions and some confusion on a couple of issues about the reunion.  We'll try to clear them up.

The reunion festivities scheduled at the Huntsville Marriott will cover two evenings:

Friday, August 20th & Saturday, August 21st. The cost of attending the reunion is $50.00 per person.  There is not a separate price for attending only one of the evenings.  The cost is figured to cover the expenses for the whole weekend.  Please keep in mind that the final food order must be placed at least 72 hours before the event.  So if you are planning to attend, but for some reason can not get your registration form sent in advance, please get in touch with your class contact and let them know so that enough food can be ordered.  When planning an event of this size, some “wiggle room” is figured in, but we don't want to run short of food or seating.

Questions have also been asked about who is invited to attend this reunion.  The classes of LHS ‘64’65’66 had a unique high school experience.  Many of us attended Lee for six years as it changed from Lee Jr. High School into Lee High School.  That experience seems to have given us a special bond; therefore we have planned our reunions together for many years. That does not mean that others are excluded.   If you are in another graduating class  or just attended Lee at some time and want to join us, please know that you are welcome.  Just get in touch with one of the class contacts listed on this website for a registration form. We'll be glad to have you!

2010 Reunion Schedule

Friday evening’s get-together (6:00 p.m. – 11 p.m.) is an informal poolside gathering.  Each class will have a Hospitality Room where attendees will go to check in and get a nametag.  If for some reason you have not paid your registration fee for the reunion, you can pay at the hospitality room. The tentative Hospitality Room numbers are 159, 161, and 163.  To reach these rooms, go through the lobby and past the front desk.  You’ll see glass doors to the right that lead out to the courtyard/pool area.  The hospitality rooms will be across the courtyard.  (Watch for blue balloons and signs to guide you to the appropriate rooms.)   In case of rain, aside from the hospitality rooms, there is an area inside where we can gather. Dress is casual – comfortable & cool.  Light snacks and soft drinks will be provided.  A cash bar will also be set up.  There is no planned program for Friday evening.  Just grab a seat or stroll around and visit.

Saturday evening’s get-together (6:00 p.m.  – 12:00 a.m.)  will be held in the Huntsville Marriott Ballroom.  This does not mean that dress is formal – it’s just what the room is called.  Since it is inside and cooler, “dressy casual” is a good way to go.

Registration begins at 6:00 p.m. To reach the ballroom, enter the main lobby and walk straight ahead past the front desk.  You will see registration tables set up outside the ballroom.  Find your class year table, check in and pick up your nametag. (If you registered early enough a special nametag will have been prepared for you.)

If for some reason you have still not paid your registration fee for the reunion, you can pay at this time.  Please make checks payable to “LHS Reunion 2010” or have the correct amount of cash available.

Buffet served 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.  - heavy hor d’oeuvres, coffee, & tea. A Cash Bar will also be available.

Reunion Program 7:30 – 8:00

Live entertainment begins at 8:00 p.m. The Time Machine

Lee High School Classes of '64-'65-'66 Reunion 2010
The above item is a leaf/trash burner which I saw advertised in a 1956 Huntsville Times. I remember using this to burn leaves and other items in our back yard when I lived on East Clinton - about two blocks from downtown Huntsville. I can't imagine what would happen if you were to fire one of these things up that close to town today, but back then it was common.

Sadly, I will not be attending the reunion this year. I attended the 2005 reunion and while I very much enjoyed seeing everyone from forty years prior, I will not return to Alabama in August voluntarily, ever again. I suffered very much from the heat and humidity while there and will not do it again. We live on the high desert in Central Oregon now at 4300 feet altitude. No matter how hot it gets during the day it's always cool at night. In fact we had snow in mid-June this year and the last frost was July 14 here. Having had two heart attacks in the last two years I do not want to subject my body to the stress those conditions can put on you.

I know that it is too late to change anything for the reunion now, but why was the planning for this reunion started so late? My wife's family has reunions in rural Minnesota every few years and the parks and pavilions there are booked at least a year ahead even though every little hamlet has at least one. Why would a major city like Huntsville be any different? We were told after the 2005 one that there would be enough advance planning to have this one earlier in the summer, oh well.

Please start the planning earlier for the next one and if it is at a better time of year We'll be there with bells on.

ps: I bet the majority of us are or will be retired before the next reunion, so why not schedule it for a different time of year, say spring or fall instead of the dog days of summer?

Subject:Help Requested
Cherri Massey

Tommy,

Would you be willing to out this in the Traveller to help them?

I'm doing this for my college friend, Wanda Maples Sine, whose cousin helped start the Owens Cross Roads Volunteer Fire Department.  I'm hoping some of you who have had connections in the Huntsville and Owens Cross Roads area will be willing to help them win a fire truck.

Thanks,
Cherri

The Owens Cross Roads Volunteer Fire Department is in a contest to win a new fire truck.   We could surely use your help by casting your vote for them.     (Ray, has volunteered with the department for 42 years.)

Here's the story: In December of 2009, E-ONE, a manufacturer and designer of fire and rescue vehicles, began a 'TELL US YOUR STORY' contest to win a new Tradition ES Commercial Pumper (Fire Engine).  All volunteer fire departments across America could submit their story on why they need the pumper.  Owens Cross Roads entered the contest, and in April 2010, Owens Cross Roads was named as one of seven finalists in the nation (the only department in the Southeast US).   The winner will be chosen from the total e-mail votes they receive (from the public).  You do not have to be a member of a fire department to vote.  Deadline to vote is August 26, 2010.

Here's how to vote:
Go to:  www.e-one.com
Click on:
   VOTE NOW
OWENS CROSS ROAD VFD  (Read and vote)
   VOTE
   NAME:   (Your name)
E-MAIL ADDRESS:  (Your e-mail address; one vote per e-mail address)
FIRE DEPT:  OWENS CROSS ROADS VFD
SELECT:  NOT SURE  (Question: Are you planning to purchase new apparatus)
SELECT:  CUSTOM  PUMPER  (Question: What do you expect your departments next purchase to be)
   VOTE

We would really appreciate your supporting the volunteers at OCR  by casting your vote.  They are really excited at the thought of winning the truck, and they really need it!
