Memphis, TN - We're home again after a safe trip to visit family. There were some great football games this past weekend and I was very happy to see the good-sportmanship in the rivalry between you Alabama and Auburn classmates..

Christmas Ornament Still Available

I had forgotten all about doing this several years ago until I got my ornaments out this year. I checked the web and they are still available but only through the internet and from Cafepress.

The ornaments cost $6 plus postage, and you need to order them soon.

I'm also going to put in another plus for my latest book "The Baby Boomer's Guide to Growing Up in The Rocket City". I've received many favorable reviews from early readers and I know you'll find it a great Christmas present for people who grew up in our era in Huntsville.

McKinley Avenue Girls
by Cecilia Le Van Watson
Class of '68

Above is a picture of four sets of sisters - Nina and Pat McCormick, Nelda and Lejeania Preston, Linda and Cecilia Le Van,  and Peggy and Wanda Luna. These were their maiden names back then.

The Mckinley Avenue girls as we called ourselves lived within three blocks of each other, and grew up playing and praying together. We didn't have much money but we always had a lot of fun.  Linda, Nelda and Peggy graduated from Lee in 1965. Nina graduated in '67, Lejeania and I in '68,  and Wanda in '69.  We loved each other because we were closer than family because we saw each other everyday.

Time passed, life passed, families grew that kept us apart from one another. Then Facebook came into most of our lives. Wanda and I found each other then Pat and Nina. After 40 years of being apart I decided it was time to see those people that meant so much to me growing up.

We planned a reunion that took place October 30, 2010 at our favorite neighborhood hangout Mullin's.  Can you imagine the people at Mullin's that day seeing all the love and memories come rushing back? We took pictures of that day and brought pictures of our families to share with one another. Hopefully this will be something that we do often.

Bruce Fowler, Class of '66 - Most Illustrous Editor, I have to salute you for generating attention sinks with such regularity and elan!

The stamps pictured are U.S. Postage Stamps numbers 1257b (1254 -1257 indiviually, but this is an untagged block-of-four.)  The date of issue was 9/11/1964. The transition from $0.04 to $0.05 was somewhere between 15/12/1962 (issue 1207 Winslow Homer commemorative) and 9/1/1963 (issue 1208 Flag over White House regular.)

The stamps pictured are unused, but could have been used as unaugmented first class postage until 10/05/1971 when postage increased to $0.06.

Carolyn Burgess Featheringill

Suzanne was a frequent contirbutor to the Traveller web site. She grew up in Madison County and graduated from Huntsville High in 1964. I think many of our LHS group knew her and appreciated her participation in the collective recollections of our high school days.

Suzanne Pettus Thomason
Huntsville High School
Class of '64
July 15, 1946 - Nov. 30, 2010

Suzanne Pettus Thomason, 64, of Huntsville was a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother and friend whose courageous fight against cancer came to an end on Tuesday.

Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Sam Austin Thomason; children, Jody Thomason and wife Kristin of Tuscaloosa and Melissa Rogers and husband Keith of Huntsville; and three grandchildren, Walton Kelley Rogers, Jackson Pettus Rogers and Carter Elizabeth Thomason.

There will be a private family burial prior to her service at First United Methodist Church Wesley Worship Center in Huntsville at 1 p.m. today with a reception following. Laughlin Service Funeral Home is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure , Attn: Donor Services, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265.

(Editor's Note: I remember Suzanne as a pre-Lee classmate and a great supporter of her class at Huntsville. She has been a frequent contributor to the Traveller for many years and I am saddened at the loss of her frequent emails. My prayers go out to her family during this holiday season.)

Jim (Jimmy) Johnson
Class of '67

I believe James Edmond (Ed) Huff and Jerry Otis (Jerry) Woods should be added to the casuality list as well.

I am sure of Ed's eligibility as he was a close friend, along with Jimmy, David and Stanley.

I am not 100% sure of Jerry Woods' eligibility, but more like 70% sure.

A lot of information is available at www.virtualwall.org

Both should have been class of 1966 (I think) but for whatever reason they were not and opted for service to our country instead.

Sam Smith was an E-3 (LCPL) in the USMC also, rather than the US Army to the best of my knowledge.  He lived around the corner from me during high school days at Lee.

A Fifties Christmas
by Tommy Towery
Class of '64

I was surfing the web looking for some stuff to borrow for this week's Traveller, when I came upon a site I want to share with you. I know Ronnie Hornbuckle will relate to it.

I did not create the site and take no credit (or blame) for anything connected with it, but I think it is really neat-o. It has a lot of  songs from the era for you to enjoy just by clicking on it. I know it works on my computer and hope it does on your's as well.

The site is:
