Memphis, TN - We're home again after a safe trip to visit family. There were some great football games this past weekend and I was very happy to see the good-sportmanship in the rivalry between you Alabama and Auburn classmates..

Mystery Photo
      From Our
      Mailbox
Although it is a fading custom, some of you will still send out Christmas cards in the next couple of weeks. Above is a block of four stamps from the past. Do you know what year these stamps were used and when the price of first class mail jumped to five cents after staying four cent for four years?

Goose Gang Reunites
by Collins (CE) "Fuzz" Wynn
Class of '64

We have all talked many times about how good things just happen sometimes, with no planning at all.

This past Sunday, Nov 21, circumstances brought the Goose Gang together for the first time in 40 years.  We all just happened to be in Huntsville at the same time and each had a few minutes to spare that morning so we met for breakfast at Mullins (where else?).  All were present except for Mike Chisum who is off busily conquering the free world somewhere (Wash DC, I think).  Anyway, left to right are Mike "Snuffy" Smith, CE "Fuzzy" Wynn, Jim "Goose" Shelton, and Walt "Droop" Thomas.

During an hour long conversation I was able to confirm a few things such as, most of the stories I wrote for our Lee's Traveller were mostly true.  The legend of Goby Lambert is true.  Someone actually did go for joy rides late at night on unattended earth moving equipment near Optimist Park.  Two 16 year old boys actually did walk from the intersection of Meridian Street and Oakwood Avenue down to Humes Avenue late one night in search of Mike Smith clothed only in their underwear (tighty whities) with one wearing a walking cast on his right leg.  A number of the men pictured, without being specific, actually did run from the police and hide in the bushes along Jones Valley Road late, late one evening.  Mike Smith won the concrete block jumping competition held behind the old Mullins.  Numerous fist fights were held and Mike Smith started most but participated in none.

Without meaning to be melancholy I would have to say it was a wonderful reunion of sorts and I felt really good all the way back to Pensacola.  Judy kept asking why I was so quiet - I was just reliving my childhood spent with very special friends.

Tommy, my cousin, Pat Lacey Hall, Class of 67, went to the Veterans Day Parade and stayed til the end but we missed seeing you.  I thoroughly enjoyed the parade and my patrotic spirit was high.  Thank you for marching in the parade and just wanted to let you know I was looking for you.

It seems in my haste to wrap things up, I inadvertently may have mailed handbooks from the 2005 reunion instead of the 2010 reunion.   If anyone who had paid for a 2010 reunion handbook was mailed a 2005 reunion handbook, please let me know so that the correct one can be mailed.

This Week's
Mystery Photo
Jeff Fussell, Class of '66  - The key in the Mystery Photo this week has a Ford Falcon logo. When the Falcon first came out, I thought it was the sharpest car on the road. It looked as sleek as a jet fighter.  The ’63 “Sprint” with the 289 V-8 was on the “short list” of my dream cars. When Ford introduced the Mustang, the Falcon’s wings got trimmed back for good. I never got the Sprint, but thanks for the trip back.

Christmas Ornament Still Available

I had forgotten all about doing this several years ago until I got my ornaments out this year. I checked the web and they are still available but only through the internet and from Cafepress.

The ornaments cost $6 plus postage, and you need to order them soon.

I'm also going to put in another plus for my latest book "The Baby Boomer's Guide to Growing Up in The Rocket City". I've received many favorable reviews from early readers and I know you'll find it a great Christmas present for people who grew up in our era in Huntsville.
