Memphis, TN - We're safely home now after a week of being on the road. We got to do three things in one trip with our attendance at the B-52 dedication in Missouri, our visit with Beckye and the kids in Iowa, and a side-trip to visit with my nephew Ty in Kansas.

We are saddened to learn of the death of Jim Harris, and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this time of loss.

Please include your class year with your e-mails.
T. Tommy

Tiks Reunion -
Our Mini-Reunion?
by Tommy Towery
Class of '64

Thanks to all of you who sent me the information about the Tiks and other bands reunion. Mike Smith sent me the photo above.

If at all possible, Sue and i are going to try to make it down for this. We hope that all of you will take it as an opportunity for all of us to get together and have some fun and visit with each other.

As of this time, there are no other plans being made to get together as a group and do anything else, but maybe we can get together sometime during the band breaks and plan a breakfast or something.

George James  "Jim" Harris
Class of '65
March 18, 1947 - July 30, 2009

George James "Jim" Harris passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 62.

His long and illustrious 30-year automobile sales and marketing career began in Huntsville with Ford followed by many years as a top salesman for both Lincoln and Cadillac brands. His career was punctuated in 2004 when he managed the successful launch of the Jaguar and Land Rover brands to Huntsville. He was an avid golfer from an early age, and he graced the courses around Huntsville with passion and patience.

Born in Milwaukee, Wis., he moved to Huntsville in 1956. He attended Lee High School and, after graduating from Jacksonville State University, married and then lovingly dedicated himself to care for his first love, Linda Anderson Harris, through her 34-year battle with multiple sclerosis. She preceded him in death in 2001.

He is survived by his second love and greatest gift from God, local artist Rhonda Mitchell, whom he married in 2002. He loved his family dearly and traveled with them often, creating lots of cherished memories. Also surviving him are his mother, Charlotte Harris; sisters, Linda, Nancy, and Kay; brother, Dean; son, Keith and his wife Jill; and grandchildren, Jackson and Anna Rae.

After a lifetime of friendship and dedication, he opened The Wine Cellar in 2002 and quickly became a trusted and influential part of the entertainment and charity scene around Huntsville. Everyone who came through the door became a friend, and every friend was someone special to Jim. Whether presiding over the grill, enjoying a dance with his wife, golfing, tasting wine, or playing a spirited game of cards, his genuine character and affable personality were always on display. "Popi," as he became known to his grandchildren, will be missed by so many, whose good fortune it was to know him. His legacy will be, as he so often said, that he "Never had a bad day - although some were better than others."
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. today at the Wesley Center at First United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank everyone for their support and prayers.

In lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made to The Russel Hill Cancer Foundation or to the MS Society of America.
Please sign the online guestbook at www.valhallafunerals.com.

Please see the attached concerning the band reunion.  The members of the bands mentioned will be there, however they will be playing at different times and will be mixed with members of other bands and not as the original group.  I think that three of the Tiks in the picture will be there(Jerry Brewer, Sam Hunter, Johnny Parker).  Jimmy Gentry, the lead singer for the Continentals will also be there along with most of the members of the Precious Few.  My wife and I will definitely be there.   I hope the attachment will help on the website.

You can put me and Judy down for a mini-reunion around the Tiks, especially if we can dance

The "Band Reunion" which has been held off and on for several years will be from 4:00 to 11:00 PM August 29th at the Elks Lodge on Franklin St. Tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased at Robbin's Music and most probably at the door as they were last year. We got to see a lot of old friends and hear some good music. The only problem was the smoke.

ANSWERS:  1)  University of Cincinnati    2)  Walter Cronkite  3)  Apollo 7   4) Wally A. Schirra was the only man to fly in all three projects. Alan Shepard flew in Mercury and Apollo, but not in Gemini. Gus Grissom was involved in all three projects, flying in Mercury and Gemini, but he was killed during a pre-flight simulation in his Apollo 1 capsule, so he never actually flew in the Apollo program.  5) Although three of the Mercury 7 flew in the Apollo program, only one, Alan Shepard, walked on the moon.

Mystery photo.  This is Buzz Aldrin. One can see the reflection of Armstrong in Aldrin’s visor.  Armstrong was (and still is) a conservative man and took most of the photos that day and shunned the publicity.

Since we're talking about bands, I thought I might throw this in for some fun. I borrowed (stole, lifted, copied) this photo off of a Facebook page. I'll give you a hint, it was taken in 1968. It might be a little "young" for those of us who graduated and left town before then, but for the rest of you, it might be fun. What's the name of the band, and can you name any of the members? You can click on the picture and get a larger one. Class year with email please.

Southern Ten Commandments

Some people have trouble with all those 'shall's' and 'shall not's' in the Ten Commandments. Folks just aren't used to talking in those terms. So, in Middle  Tennessee  they translated the 'King James' into ' Jackson   County' Language......no joke (posted on the wall  at  Cross   Trails   Church  in  Gainesboro ,  TN ).

(1) Just one God
(2) Put nothin' before God
(3) Watch yer mouth
(4) Git yourself to Sunday meetin'
(5) Honor yer Ma & Pa
(6) No killin'
(7) No foolin' around with another fellow's gal
(8) Don't take what ain't yers
(9) No tellin' tales or gossipin'
(10) Don't be hankerin' for yer buddy's stuff

Now that's plain an' simple. Y'all have a nice day!
