MEMPHIS, TN -It is my sad duty to report nother loss from one of our '64-'65-'66 Fami-LEE this week. I could not find a photo of her in the Silver Sabres, but include one from the junior high yearbook. We also have lots of events to report this week, so make out your calendar to attend them if you can.

Please include your class year with your e-mails.

This Week's
Mystery Poem

Stone walls do not a prison make,
Nor iron bars a cage;
Minds innocent and quiet take
That for an hermitage;
If I have freedom in my love,
And in my soul am free,
Angels alone that soar above,
Enjoy such liberty.

Another poem from English Lieterature class. Class year with answers please.

Connie Rigsby Jones
Class of '65
July 17, 2008

Connie R. Jones, 61, died peacefully Thursday of complications arising from cryptogenic organizing pneu-monitis.

She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted parents Sue and Charlie Rigsby of Toney; and her dearest husband and most faithful companion of 34 years, Dr. Thomas Ward Jones; and former husband and father of her only child, Edward Ray Pierce.

Connie was a longtime member of Valley Christian Church in Birmingham, where she loved singing in the choir, serving on the Altar Guild and serving as worship leader. She was employed by the Department of Pediatric Surgery at Children's Hospital since 1997. During her time there, Connie's gracious manner and nurturing personality served patient and staff alike. Connie will long be remembered for her quick smile, lilting voice and generous, warm heart. Miss Connie never knew a stranger.

Survivors include her son, Edward Todd Pierce; brother, Charles Anthony Rigsby; and four stepchildren, Bobby Jones, Sheron Salyer, Philip Jones and Jennifer Kahl.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Valley Christian Church, 2600 Cherokee Place, Birmingham. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. A private family interment will be held at Valhalla Memory Gardens, Huntsville. Arrangements are under the direction of Ridouts Valley Chapel in Homewood.

Memorial gifts may be made to Valley Christian Church, the Dr. Thomas W. Jones Endowment Fund at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry, or to the UAB Center for Palliative Care.

Connie loved flowers. Arrangements may be sent to the funeral home.

Last Week's
Mystery Poem

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

Mark Bentley, Class of '66 - Invictus was written by William Ernest Henley My understanding was that Timothy McVey the Oklahoma bomber, wrote this poem as his last comment before he was put to death for his crimes.
_______________________________

John Drummond, Class of '65 - The poem is "Invictus" and other memorable lines include "my head is bloody but unbowed" and the final line:  "I am the master of my fate;  I am the the captain of my soul."  The author may have been (I'm foggy on this) William Blake.  Our sophomore English teacher, Penny Pope, tried to drill it into our teenage brains, but her efforts were chemically destroyed by raging hormones.  Additional trivia:  Miss Pope grew up in Sylacauga with Jim Nabors, who memorably played Gomer Pyle on "The Andy Griffith Show."
