Time is counting down to the reunion next month. I am really looking forward to seeing all of you and talking in person, rather than just visiting by e-mail.

Please include your name and class year with your e-mail to me.

Reunion Opened For Visitors

Remember that you don't have to be a member of the Classes of '64-'65-'66 to sign up and to come to our reunion. The Reunion Committee has elected to open our doors and hearts to members of other classes or just friends from other schools who would like to attend.  Even if you did not graduate with us, you're still invited. The Reunion Application can be found below and you are welcome to send it in with your money and attend all the activities. We welcome all who want to party with us.

Did The Class of '64
Make it Happen?
by Tommy Towery
Class of '64

Last week Niles Prestage, Class of ’65, sent in a letter requesting that his fellow Lee High School classmates help him with a little project he is working on for the reunion. His e-mail asked for you to answer one or both of these questions.

(1) "My greatest but least known accomplishment (honor, achievement) since I left LHS is ________________________"

  (2)  "A fact about me (what I have done, who I have met, where I have been) that most of my classmates would probably never guess is __________________"

They may answer either or both of these questions and e-mail them to him at napjr@aol.com .

The rules are that the statement or fact must be true and they are to tell no other classmate who will be in attendance their answers.

I have sent him mine. It was tough coming up with the answers, since I have told just about everything that I have ever done in my book and in the Traveller over the last few years. But I came up with a couple of things to share with you. Please take a few minutes and help Niles out.

While working on this, I remembered something we did back in 1964 in the Senior Issue of Lee’s Traveller. On the half page that we put in to hold “gossip” was the following article. I thought perhaps some of you might enjoy seeing it in print one more time. And, by the way, except for the location of the book signing, I did my part to make it happen.

CLASS PROPHECY
(Written in 1964)

The date is November 10, 1984. We have just stopped at a news-stand and picked up a daily paper to read on our way to the office on the moon. We sit back in our easy flight chair, relax, and read to ourselves.

James Duncan has just opened his 57th tomato plantation in Outer Siberia. Mike Boggs is the telescope cleaner at Palomar Observatory. Daryl Lee broke a leg trying to pull an elephant’s tooth. Linda Ragland opened a dress shop named Rag Land. Stan Hortin is a nuclear physicist at Sand Mountain University. Jack Dickerson is an ambassador to France.

Marlene Voelkl opened her own secretarial school. Barbara Seely just inherited a large mattress firm. Shirley Arnold is Big Brother’s private secretary. Tommy Towery is autographing his great American novel at the Moonside Book Store. Eddie Paulette is designing rockets at N.A.S.A. Lester Cutter is a brain surgeon. Philip Hall just discovered the 104th element named Foxium. Cynthia Day opened up a one-day laundry. Judee Howard runs an ice cream stand. Donald Marks just finished his new theory of government. Mike Adams moved to California and started growing figs. Bette Lane is a fortune teller. Diane Fox is teaching Chemistry at LSU (Lick Skillet University). Merle Huff just won a gold ribbon on the olympic Swim team. Dawn Larson became a movie star and forgot her old friends.

Butch Adcock is the district attorney at Cedar Flap. Marcia Crowl is the new track star for UCLA. Suzanne Fletcher is a dog catcher. Jim Betterton drives a Stay-Kleen Cleaner’s truck. Ronald Phillips has gone on a rabbit hunt at the Playboy Club. Sharon Bland opened a fortune’ cookie plant in Japan. Katherine Brosemer opened another diamond mine in Africa.

Carolyn Taylor has just finished filming her latest picture “Daughter of Cleopatra”. Gene Bryson is a bookkeeper at the Skippy Peanut Butter Co. Faye Patterson has just had her third set of twins. Linda Sandlin is a mountain climber. Jackie Vickers peddles cough drops in Sylacauga. Richard Flurnoy is a ballerina. Joy Wells works in a pickle factory. Linda Shafer is a famous speed typist. Mike Chisim is Postmaster General under Big Brother. David Seavor owns an antique shop in Oceaniana. Ginny Smith is a trapeze artist with The Ringling Bros. Circus.

Billy Whyte just signed another ten year contract with the New York Yankees as a bat boy. Judy Bracey just bought out Sears-Roebuck. Dianne Hughey moved to Italy to work in a pizza factory. Kathleen Tigue is a lion tamer. Terry Preston has finally arranged a student-faculty basketball game at Lee. Beverly Bradley is working at the Playboy Club. Justin Dickens lives in Texas and works with oil (at a gas station).

Tommy Thompson is lost at sea after falling off his yacht. Alice Ann Brigman is designing pyramids for Big Brother. Barbara Wilkerson is now a teacher at Lee High. John Ridgeway is still hunting the abominable snowman. Sandra Bulrnan is giving a concert at Carnegie Hall. Sharon Pendley travels over Europe modeling evening gowns. Jerry Schultz has just released his latest movie “My 23 Years at Lee.” Mike Smith is suspected of being Big Brother.

Joy Rubins is an undercover agent for the “thought” police. Janice Cobb works for the Jolly Green Giant (oh that’s corny). David France teaches dogs to dance. Edna Freeman is a G-Man. Nicki Judge married a famous Yankee baseball player. Gary Helms owns Helm’s Chevrolet. Nancy Harris lives in Paris. James Norman was just elected President of East Asia. Mike Gray is a skindiver in the army. Judith Keel got married, but was soon divorced because she couldn’t cook.

Kay Carroll was just appointed judge of Madison County Alice Gullion runs a Hungarian Chop-Suey restaurant. Susan Cornelius is announcing the opening of Toney Dressee Shoppe. Charlotte Mincher is a penny pincher. Lehman Williams bought a brewery in Kentucky.

As we arrive at our office and put aside our paper we can’t help remembering all the old school friends and wondering how they all did so well. The television-telephone buzzes, and once again we put our memories in the back of our mind and return to the present.

Last Week's
Myster-Lee Photo
Sarajane Steigerwald Tarter, Class of '65 - This week's photo shows Woody Beck, Lynn Baeder and Miles Ramsey listening to music being played by a one man band. Maybe Woody (U. of Ga prof) can remember this dance and let us know the rest of the story. I'm thinking it may be either a prom or a tri-hi-y dance. Lynn Baeder is back in town and maybe he'll remember. Does anyone talk to Sherry Adcock? I bet she'll remember all of the details.

Carolyn Burgess Featheringill, Class of '65 - Who wouldn't want to party with Miles Ramsey, Lynn Baeder and Woody Beck!  It's obviously at Christmas of one of the years when madras and skinny ties were the rage, but that's about as specific as I can be.

Class of '65

As of Friday, July 1, we have 235 people attending the reunion. We can't thank you enough for providing our classes with the means to keep us connected.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at our reunion too. The more I talk to others I realize what a unique and special group we have and how fortunate we are that we've remained friends after all these years.
I definitely want to get on your dance card. How about doing a group dance to The Dog and Louie, Louie! (or for that matter any song that moves ya).

Class of '64

This is just a reminder that our next meeting will be Tuesday, July 12, at 5:15 here at the office.  This is an important meeting.  We must finalize a number of things.

You may remember that Lehman Williams sent money to buy dinner for the committee.  I will plan to order pizza for the committee, so come hungry!  I also need a head count, so please respond to this e-mail to let me know if you will be attending.

Subject:Last Week's Brass Pole Statement
George "Lehman" Williams
Class of '64

TT  -  Girls and a Brass Pole. Now that's a great Idea. Just think of the possibilities. You could build a platform, surround it with chairs and sell Beer and Whiskey while playing some funky music (white boy). You could Franchise the Idea and sell them all over the Country, like KFC. Whow, a % of nightly revenue from about 8.3 million Brass Pole Clubs. I think you've stumbled on a good idea Tommy. I'll do some research and we can finalyze our partnership venture at the reunion.

Woody Beck, Class of '66 - I believe that the guy in the dancing photo was Rusty ...... something. As for the piano player, that's Lynn Baeder, myself, and I can't remember the name of the guy on the left.  I have no idea when/where that photo was taken.    Cheers, Woody.

(Editor's Note: The only Rusty I can remeber during this timeframe was Vance "Rusty" George. Is this the one?)

Sherry Adcock White, Class of '64 - I must say I did a double take last week.  I don't recall ever seeing that picture before.  I don't think that's J.R. Brooks in the picture but I really don't know who it is.  Reminds me of Rusty George.  I believe that's Woody Beck in this week's photo and the other two faces are familiar but can't put a name with them.

I thought at first the photo might have been taken at a sockhop at Carter's Skateland but I don't recall being that dressed at those functions.  Looks like both pictures were made at the same event.  Did we ever have something at the Russell Erskine?  I vaguely remember something there.

Good to hear from you.  The picture certainly brought a laugh. I'm looking forward to seeing you at the reuntion.
Thank you for all your hard work.  It is appreciated by all of us.

J.R. Brooks, Class of 1964 - Law professor Carolyn Burgess Featheringill is not wrong about much.  But, that was not me dancing in the photo.  The tip-off--no thick glasses. My vote is Greg Dixon.

This is the third photo from the Mystery Party. Sooner or later we will find someone who can name the event. So far we have it narrowed down to Christmas Time some year and the Russell Erskine Hotel. The "Cold Case Files" continue.

Last Call For Golf

One more time I would like for anyone interested in playing golf to e-mail me within the next week. Many of you have talked about it, but very few actually sent in an e-mail saying you really wanted to play. So, this week we will take a count one more time and make tee-time reservations. Participants will pay their own green fees and we'll make up the teams when we get the count. This is not a real tournament like some, but rather a time for a bunch of friends to get together. If anyone wants to do more than just play, then send in your ideas when you send in your name.
