Do You Remember...?
Here's some more trivia I have put together. Start off and see if you can name the place in the photo above. It is not Mullins! This is from a post card. Then try the questions below. As usual, the answers are in the bottom left hand column. Okay, do you remember...
1. the names of the two downtown hotels? 2. the name of the downtown newsstand on Clinton Street? 3. the names of two of the bowling alleys? 4. the name the roller skating rink on Traylor Island? 5. the name the ice skating rink? 6. the names of two of the Five & Dime stores that were located on Washington Street downtown? 7. the color of the buses and how much it cost to ride them? 8. what city Huntsville supposedly bought used buses from? 9. what Kroger stores gave you free with purchases? 10. what Kayo was?

Tommy, "Raindrops" was recorded by Dee Clark. I know because I toured with him for a year in 1970. His other hits were "Hey Little Girl In The High School Sweater" and "Just Keep IT Up." The Cascades had "Listen To The Rhythm Of The Falling Rain." Just trying to keep things straight. Thanks, Eddie Burton
(Editor's Note: You are correct of course. I guess I have to join Collins in passing out wrong information on the singer.)

Tommy,
Terry P. commented on the baseball picture somewhere! Either that, or I just had one of my own senior moments! I remember reading the names of the players. This was shortly after the letter from Jim McBride. Did it perhaps rotate off the guest book before you saw it? Or is that even possible?
The site is absolutely fantastic this week (as usual). I have enjoyed it tremendously, and have particularly enjoyed hearing from so many of my former classmates. Just found out that Wayne Deason also lives here in South Carolina and goes to the Clemson games, too. I graduated from Clemson in 1979 (6 weeks before my daughter, Devon, was born) and have to say that it is very much like Auburn, which I loved!!! Okay, time for the shots from 'Bama people. (I started there and transferred to Auburn when Eddie and I were engaged.) My biggest problem was when Clemson and Auburn played in the Peach Bowl. Oy Vay! I couldn't lose, though!!!
Keep up the good work. This is the best website of ANY I have visited all over the country. I've recommended that several friends from other states check in to see what the perfect site looks like!

Dear Tommy, I received the second tape and the program. Wanted to send special thanks to you- not only for the tapes and program but for the web site as well. I visit it every monday morning. I had been hoping to find an address for Annalee Milburn and finally saw that she had registered but when I wrote to her it was returned "user unknown". Please let me know if you get an updated address for her. Enjoyed the article on Zesto. Have fond memories of the Dip Dogs and their chocolate ice cream. My husband always stops there on the way to and from Talladega. Best Wishes, Susan

This wonderful site that you have put together brought laughter & tears. You can tell that so much hard work went into this tribute to this great school. So many memories of my time spent there with such wonderful teachers & students. Especially when I went through the members we have lost over the years, so many were my friends & dear classmates. I did not finish my senior year there but feel like Lee High was my school for a few years and a very important part of my life. The reunion photos were super. My brother still lives in Huntsville & we grew up in Northeast Huntsville at the foot of Monte Sano Mountain. I am in NW Florida now ( many years) & living on the coast. I come back when I have a chance to visit my twin brother, go on the mountain, visit my parent's grave in Maple Hill. The town is still so beautiful & has not lost the charm & history that I loved so growing up. I do look forward to visiting Lee High when I'm up that way. Respectfully, Sherrell B. From: Barbara Wilkerson Donnelly Anderson, SC E-mail: barbdonn13@aol.com C.E., C.E., C.E., Having a senior moment, are we? Using "socially redeeming activities" and "our class" in the same sentence? Tut, tut on you! Enjoyed your quiz again. Funny, but about 10 years ago, I could have answered every one of those questions. However, all I want to know right now is "Who are you, and what are you doing in my kitchen?" No, . . . that's not right.
Never mind. Barbara Subject: Mullins, Old Days Date: Tue, 28 Aug 2001 10:41:09 -0700 From: "Terry 'Moses' Preston" <mosespreston@earthlink.net>
Hi Tommy. I enjoyed the photograph of the 1960 Lee Junior High baseball team that hangs on the wall at Mullins. And you are right - my ears do resemble a car with both doors open. It is really a funny picture of all of us. Mike Chisam and Larry Hale look like they were on drugs, Jackie Hughes looks like he is having a back spasm, and Bill Whyte looks so young that we must have borrowed him from a Little League team. Justin Dickens (who actually looks almost good in the picture), is the proud father of movie star Kim Dickens. Whatever happened to Gary Broadway?
I enjoy C.E. Wynn's quizzes. The drive-inn restaurant in Lincoln was known as Bill's Drive-Inn. It was owned by Bill Adcock, whose brother Dillard also had a cafe (on Oakwood just west of Meridian Street). I'm not sure if Bill's nickname was "Mule" or if that was another of his brothers, but Mule Adcock owned Mule's Lounge on north Meridian Street just south of Woody's Drive-In theater.
The football team that had the honor of losing to LHS twice in the same season (1961) was actually Sparkman. We beat them at Goldsmith-Schifman field, then ended our season by beating them again at Sparkman. We called their field the cow pasture, and it was the worst field that I ever played a football game on.
Tommy, I'm still trying to locate photographs of the 1961 Lee Junior High baseball and football generals. I plan to scan the newspaper clippings from that year for the baseball team's games and articles on Hub Myhand (yep, I have all of them). Hopefully I can get that done this week. Keep up the good work!

Subject: Trivia Date: Sun, 26 Aug 2001 17:36:13 -0400 From: irecruit@mindspring.com Tommy, You are right, I did mix the two songs. It has to be the 'Tan shoelaces, polka dot vest and Panama hat' song. Can't believe that Mr. Murphy, principal at Pulaski Pike School would have allowed a skit about a bikini. Congratulations to Craig. Another Pulaski Pike grad. The drive in on Meridian street by Lincoln, was it 'Jimmy's'. My brother-in-law,Steve Spier,a 1958 grad from Huntsville High said Jerry's was there in '58 and was first. The 'paratrooper mom' was rumored about Mrs. Wuenscher(spelling?). Heidi and Bernie Wuenscher were the kids. They were our neighboors on Dogwood Lane and lived at the corner of Oakwood and Dogwood. Had a swimming pool in their back yard and built a huge brick wall to shield it from Oakwood. Heidi and I got together about 10 years ago. She lived in California then and was back visiting her mom. Bernie lives in Tennessee and has worked as a Design Engineer for TRW Automotive for years. We have all probably driven a car with some of his chassis, steering & suspension systems design. Linda & Dwight Norris, Sandy Moneymaker, Lester (now a minister) and Harvey (now has his own CPA firm here)Cutter, Ann Still(moved and graduated from Hville High), Phillip Hall all were neighbors. Then there was my younger brother, Tom McAdams, that should have been in the class of '66 at LHS and all of his friends, Patrick Stewart, the Ross boys (Larry, Eugene), the Bell boys, Ronnie Early to think of a few.The parking spot at the end of Oakwood at Ardmore Highway was Rutledge Subdivision under construction. To 'kids' a little older than us, it was called the "Hill". Remember the 'Twist' party at Escoe German's house on the mountain. Friends had to carry me out to the hosptial because I dislocated my knee doing the Twist. Was never so embarrassed in my whole life. One minute dancing and then ended up as a 'contortionist' on the floor. AHH, the good old days.
Linda McAdams Johnson 1965
(Editor's Note: As a matter of fact, I do remember the party at Escoe's. It ranks up there as one of the most memoriable parties of my high school days. Thanks for inviting me Escoe.)

Actually Floyd Hardin, who now owns the shop (Jackson Way Styling Salon) just worked there when we were in school. Clarence Carroll owned and operated it. When he retired he sold the shop to Floyd. Floyd still cuts what little hair I have left. Bob Alverson Class of 65

Tommy today I had lunch with Glen Swaim, class of 66 and a close personal friend that I had not seen in twenty years. I brought my mother and fiance and met his lovely wife Judy. We had a great time remembering and a special afternoon. None of which would have been possible without your website.
Thank you for something nice that you didn't even know you did. Mark Bentley (66) ____________________________________________________________________
