WHITE HOUSE, TN - Up visiting the grandkids again this week, so the paper is going out later than some of you expected it to be. Oh, and I also had to quit working on it so that I could watch Michael Phelps in the Olympics. My one best LHS related Olympic memory was Cassisus Clay in boxing back then - but boy did the Olympic Boxing rules change this year. It wasn't even worth watching.

Please include your class year with your e-mails.

This Week's
Mystery Photos
One last weapon in our TV Western Series of Mystery Photos. We watched one Wild West TV legend carry a gun like this each week as he battled bad guys. Who carried this type of weapon on TV and what was it called?  Class year with answers please.

Since there will only be one more issue of Lee's Traveller before we get together for the mini-reunion at the end of this month, I thought I might take the opportunity to fill in a few details.

It is very hard to coordinate an event in one city when you live in a different state. Nevertheless, I'm still trying to do that the best I can. Here's some ideas of what we might do to make this event worth while.

I would like to try a pot lunch meal, so those of you who are planning to attend that live in Huntsville and feel like it, can bring something homemade - casserole, dessert, cookies, etc. Those of us who don't live in town, or who don't feel like making something, can stop by a store and get something for the group. Some ideas are:

Beverages (non-alcoholic)
Bucket of Fried Chicken
Pizzas
Bought cakes or pies
Rolls, biscuits, bread
More cakes, pies, or cookies
More beverages

I know it all worked out okay the last time we did this up on the mountain, so I am just as sure that it will all work out again this time - but I was born a doubting Thomas.

As for activities, I have a few surprise thoughts to keep things going if we need to do that. The primary activity will be visiting with one another and sharing memories. I encourage all of you to bring old photos, old souvenirs, and whatever you want to bring to share with the group. Also bring your cameras and let's take lots of photos. I know I will so that I can have some to use in The Traveller over the next few weeks.

Also, just to put the record straight...this is not just an event for the Lee High School Classes of '64-'65-'66. This is an event for any of you who read The Traveller, no matter what school, year, or class you attended or how old you are. It's also for parents and teachers if they want to come. So, please come visit with us. You are all welcome.

If anyone has anything to add, we'll print it next week.

Charlie Hancock, Class of '66 - It seems like Chuck Conners was "The Rifleman", even though it was a sawed off shotgun. Or maybe that's not right at all. It was a B&W Western.

I think I saw the actor in other shows, that was the only series that I recall where he was the main character. He seemed to kill a lot of people that just needed killin'.... He had a teenage son named Travis I think.

Pretty good for a guy that doesn't recall what he ate at all in today's three meals due to my dementia. But trivial unimportant stuff  from long ago seems to last forever.

Paula S Kephart, Class of '65 - I believe this was Chuck Connors who starred as Lucas McCain in "The Rifleman."  He had a son named Mark, but Lucas was very adept at using his sawed off rifle with many shots fired in a very few seconds.  He had no use for a handgun because he was ambidextrous and could fire the rifle so rapidly.  It was a good western and was on for several years.  Never heard of a name for the rifle, but feel sure it was just something I never paid attention to.  The sheriff, Micah, also used a rifle very well.  This was a good role Chuck Connors played for many years, but was probably best known prior to this show as a "bad guy." I believe Johnny Crawford played Mark McCain.

(Editor's Note: Yes, Chuck Conners was The Rifleman, but he did not use a sawed off Winchester. He did have one with the big loop in it, but he is not this week's mystery photo man.)

Mike Boggs, Class of '64 - This week's trip down memory lane is one of the coolest guys of our time. Steve McQueen played Josh Randell in the TV show "The Bounty Hunter." The sawed off Winchester was so cool that I had to have one of my own. But all I had handy was a Daisy bb gun called a golden eagle and when my dad backed over it with his car and flattened the barrel, well, I knew it was meant to be !
A little hacksaw work and the parts from a Daisy bb pistol and it was complete. Worked really well. Wish I still had it!

(Editor's Note: Almost right Mike, but the show was not called "The Bounty Hunter," although it was about a bounty hunter.)

Mary (Ardrey) Aukerman, Class of '66 - I’d recognize that body anywhere!  He was one of my most favorite actors, Steve McQueen (loved him in Great Escape).  That picture is from "Wanted: Dead or Alive" and he played Josh Randal(or maybe 2 l’s) a bounty hunter that was kind of a nice guy really.  Anyway, he was such a good actor.  I can remember that show like it was yesterday, except I don’t know the name of his gun.  Do people really name their guns?

(Editor's Note: People really do name their guns...don't you remember "Ole Betsy" and "Ticklicker"?

Eddie Burton, Class of '66 - Steve McQueen played the role and the sawed off shotgun was called the "Mare's Leg". I don't remember the name of the show or the character.

Linda Beal Walker, Class of '66 - Could this be Steve McQueen as Josh Randall in "Wanted Dead or Alive"?  I don't remember the name of his gun.

I didn't think I'd recall "The Flying Saucer" but it came back right away. It seemed to be the first song that used lines from other songs to tell some silly story.

That was digging pretty deep, Tommy!  Good Job!

"The Flying Saucer" record started a geat number of swirling memories in my brain. Where I was when I was the first time I heard it. The many times I tried to get in to the raido announcer, to request it again and again but the best memory was the "LOVE NOTES" that were put together using only titles of the popular love songs. These were usually composed during class and passed to  sweethearts between classes.

Most Illustrious Editor,
In response to the admonition "Get used to hearing 'You ain't from round here, are ya?": After over 32 years in the service of the federal republic I never went on a business trip that I was not addressed with some variant on this question - slightly different wording but identical information. As I recall my average was something of the order of 15 trips per annum to many parts of this continent and a couple of others. This was not limited to the old Confederacy; I was asked the question in California, New York, Michigan, Utah, ........ My colleagues attribute this to an Alibam upbringing, Yankee grad shul, and studying physics, with professors leaning heavily to Oriental and Jewish.
I also found that folks have Southron virtues all over. While in grad shul I found that the folks in Southern Illinois had many such characteristics, like water skiing in borrow pit ponds!

Sean and Charmion are on their way to Vanderbilt this morning for three days of tests.  All the tests that had been done to prepare him for the transplant before he "slipped" out of remission again will have to be redone. His bloodwork from his appointment yesterday with Dr. Dang (in HSV) was good.

After all that has happened the past two months, Sean is really "gun-shy" everytime he has a test is done.

Our prayer is:
*that all tests come back okay - that none of his organs were damaged from this last chemo.
*that the fungal infection is GONE and will not cause any complications for a transplant.
*that the donor is ready and able to prepare for the transplant.
*THAT SEAN REMAINS IN REMISSION UNTIL EVERYTHING IS IN PLACE FOR THE TRANSPLANT!
*that Sean & Charmion have a safe journey.

Thank all of you for your prayers and support!!!
