Companies are 'adding value in the community'
Four area businesses were honored this week by the North Alabama Chapter of Financial Service Professionals, which presented its American Business Ethics Awards.
The awards, which cover North Alabama, have been given out annually since 1994, said Mike Innes, a chapter board member and past president.
The winners were:
Dynetics, an employee-owned, Huntsville-based defense and government engineering, science and services company.
Judges found that the company "acts fairly and honestly with customers, suppliers, fellow employee-owners and the community."
Danny B. Gist, G&G Steel, a Russellville-based steel and sheet metal fabricator, which has grown to become one of Franklin County's largest employers.
Gist, the company's CEO, was recognized for treating his employees well, standing behind his workmanship and "taking pride in a job well done."
Niles Prestage, Office Furniture Outlet, which has stores in Huntsville and Decatur. Office Furniture Outlet has grown from a "closeout scratch and dent outlet" to "one of Alabama's largest retailers of office, commercial and home office furniture."
Patricia Schwerman, PartyWorks, a Huntsville party supply store.
Schwerman has owned and operated PartyWorks in Huntsville for 20 years. Judges noted, "That PartyWorks is dependable and reliable goes without saying, but Patricia and her staff are also notably creative and kind to all customers, whether the assignment is large or just a last-minute $10 rush request."
The winners were recognized at a luncheon at the Heritage Club on Wednesday.
"We are looking for people and companies who are adding value in the community," Innes said. "We are looking for a long-standing business, somebody who keeps their employees and is getting repeat business," he said, "because they stand behind their work and make good on their promises."
