Future Teachers of America?
(FTA)
by Tommy Towery
Class of '64
We spent the last few weeks in discussions about the JETS, so it is time to move on to some other fun stuff. This week we move from the JETS to the FTA. The photo above is of the officers of that group in 1964.
According to the description in the 1964 Silver Sabre, " The purpose of the Future Teachers of America is to interest students in the teaching profession. The qualifications to become a member of this club is the desire to become a teacher and a B average."
Many of us belonged to clubs in high school that seemed to feed our interest at the time, but may not have become a part of our future. I think we are getting to an age where we should reflect on those things and see what impact they really had upon us.
So, just starting with the officers show above, which should be the ones most interested in the goal of the club, which of them actually became teachers? I don't know myself, but I am sure that some of you have some insight on the untimate desitnies of these five Generals who were the officers. How about their names and if they did not become teachers, what profession lured them away from their honorable goals?

I have been asking a few people I have seen here in Huntsville if they are intrested in working on the 2010 Reunion, so far I have had a good response. Jerry Brewer thinks we should start having them every two years! I also think we should have a mini-reunion again this summer. We need to start getting the excitment about the reunion going soon.
I did not see myself in the picture of the "JETS", but I was a member and I did become an engineer (rocket scientist, but you know the story). I do see Skip Cook and he is also an engineer, if I remember correctly. And "JETS" is the acronym for "Junior Engineering Technical Society"'

Who Says Today's Kids
Aren't smart ?
submitted by Aaron Potts
I wish we had thought of this ...
At a high school in Montana, a group of students played a prank on the school. They let three goats loose in the school.
Before they let them go, they painted the numbers 1,2,4 on the sides of the goats.
Local school administrators spent most of the day looking for Goat 3.

Secret to 50 Year Marriage
submitted by Linda Beal Walker
Class of '66
At Saint Mary's Catholic Church they have a weekly husband's marriage seminar.
At the session last week, the Priest asked Luigi, who was approaching his 50th wedding anniversary, to take a few minutes and share some insight into how he had managed to stay married to the same woman all these years.
Luigi replied to the assembled husbands, 'Well, I've a-tried to treat-a her nice, spend the money on her, but best of all is that I took-a her to Italy for the 20th anniversary!'
The Priest responded, 'Luigi, you are an amazing inspiration to all the husbands here! Please tell us what you are planning for your wife for your 50th anniversary.'
Luigi proudly replied, 'I'm a-gonna go and get her.
