March Madness
by Tommy Towery
Class of '64

Okay, this might be a cheap shot at a commercial, but I have my reasons. We are Fami-LEE and we are spread to the four winds. I know not everyone is into college basketball, but since I work at a university I have to admit that I am. And this is the time for March Madness.

Over the years I have always associated different schools with different people. I guess that is because I was in the Air Force and on all B-52 crews five out of the six crew members are college graduates, I had a lot of friends who went to a lot of different colleges. As I have spent most of the week watching basketball games on TV and seeing at least 64 different colleges in the brackets, I know a lot of alumni from many of them.

It is funny that I know so many Auburn and Alabama fans and alumni that I cannot and do not associate any one person from Lee High School to either of those schools – there’s just too many of you. I have to admit that judytigerfan often comes to mind as does bamayaya but maybe that’s just me and maybe their e-mail names have nothing to do with the Tide or War Eagles. When I think of the University of Georgia I have to think of Woody Beck. I am sure there are others of you and other unique colleges, but since I only have a few minutes between games tonight I can’t think of them at this moment.

However, I invite all of you to root for The University of Memphis Tigers if you don’t have another team to support in any of the games, and to think of me when you see the Tigers play. How’s that for putting a curse on you to make you think of me?

Another Fami-LEE Loss
Ann Wilson Redford, Class of '65

Mr. Wilson was born on a farm in rural Winston County. He moved to Huntsville in 1949 to take over a fledgling lumberyard. His reputation for fairness and honesty bode well for the city of Huntsville during the boom years that followed. Memorial donations may be made to the church of your choice.

Birthday Celebrations Begin
For the Class of '65

Above is a picture of "The Girls of ''65" having their first 60th birthday celebration at a local restaurant. We plan to celebrate all year long! Those celebrating are Escoe German  Beatty, Judy Scarborough Milner, Carol Jean Williams Carrol, Becky Fricke Garrison and Sarajane Steigerwald Tarter. Becky won't be 60 until next year at this time but that just means we'll be celebrating for two full years.

This is our first e-mail from the Class of '65 detailing Birthday Plans. I'd still go cruising with any of them. Want to see the lights from atop the mountain?  Have any of the rest of you got any other stories about birthday plans for this year?

Rick Simmons, Lee Student ’59-’63 - We have here a photo of Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello from the movie “Beach Party”.

Mary Ardrey Aukerman, Class of  '66 - This week’s photo is of America’s sweethearts, Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon.  I’m sure this is a shot of “Dee Dee” and “Frankie” from Beach Blanket Bingo, made in 1965.  It was much better than its sequel, How to Stuff a Wild Bikini, but we seemed to love those corny, campy movies!.  I like the fact that women in those days had real figures, not sickly thin waifs like today.  I remember my yellow and white bikini and how much I wanted to learn to surf (Gidget is one of my favorite movies of all time!).  Tried surfing a few times, almost drowned, but that’s another story.  Still love the Beach Boys!

Tom Provost, Class of '66 - It's got to be Beach Party with Frankie Avalon as Frankie and Annette Funicello as DeeDee. Except that we drooled all the way through it, the movie was truly a poorly invested hour and a half.

Hi from the sunshine state only today someone forgot to tell the sun. Well we need the rain. It is great to look back and see what has become of my class mates. Would love to hear from any of you. I have to admit you may have to jogg my memory about you but would love to hear from you.
